The Moroccan Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Sunday 6 June 2021 the "gradual" reopening of air borders to and from Morocco as of Tuesday 15 June 2021. To protect itself from the spread of Covid-19, the government had a no-fly list comprising some 40 countries, to which France and Spain had been added since 31 March 2021. "Given that the Kingdom's airspace is still closed, these flights will be carried out under exceptional authorizations," said the ministry's statement, which added that "these measures are aimed at facilitating the return of Moroccans residing abroad to their homeland.

Morocco is now drawing up two lists based on epidemiological data from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the countries concerned themselves. The first, called "A", includes "all countries with positive indicators", including those in the European Union and USA. Their passengers, whether Moroccan or foreign, will have to present a vaccination certificate and/or a negative PCR test result less than forty-eight hours old.

The second, known as "B", includes those where "the spread of variants or the absence of precise statistics on the epidemiological situation" exists. This includes 74 countries* including neighbouring Algeria and Syria. Passengers will have to obtain exceptional authorisation to set foot on a Moroccan tarmac, have a negative PCR test less than 48 hours old and undergo ten days of sanitary isolation on site.
