It started over 14 years ago with a childhood dream!
When I was a child, my father decided to move from our small village (RBAT), located in one of the most remote valleys of the Moroccan Atlas, Ait Bougumez valley. The reason my family moved from the mountains in the 90s was the lack of school and college in our village, and also the difficult living conditions in the mountain areas at that time..
In 1996, the family settled in small town in the plains close to Casablanca, allowing us (me, my brothers and sisters) to go to college, high school and then university, a big decision that has changed our lives forever and made us proud of our father for his courage and love for us.
After some university studies, I decided to join the guides school in central High Atlas, and become a tour guide, a childhood dream that comes true.
Since my childhood, i have encountered travellers from many countries visiting my area, I loved to take them to interest places and show them all of the hidden beauty of my beautiful country and working as a tour guide, gave me a chance to expand my horizon, discover new places, new cultures, learn new languages,…etc. Since then, I got how to adjust to new environments and how to adapt to every situation alike. On the other hand, this profession has high requirements and we must be proficient in a lot of fields.
Being aware that my home village needed young entrepreneurs and leaders like me to help creating new jobs, fighting poverty and improving the social and economic status of the local families, i decided to create Original Travels and, giving back to local communities been our main focus.
We have signed a partnership agreement with the local NGO TAWAYA in the village of R'bat. The association is founded by young locals and raises awareness for social and environmental issues in the region and generates support for charitable projects working to improve these issues. Apart from that we work closely with local communities and suppliers to set up new Community-Based Tourism projects and other grassroots initiatives in the Atlas Mountains.
Acknowledging the power of tourism to change and improve lives we place a strong emphasis on responsible tourism, working with an ethical mind whenever developing product which leaves us in good standing to identify existing areas of poverty where initiatives will be well received.
Essentially, the idea of “responsible tourism” transcends conventional perceptions of travel, in stead immersing clients in authentic experiences that mutually benefit both local and visitor. Sustainable tourism is the future of travel, bringing people closer together and developing a style of travel that is conducive to making the world a better place.
''No matter how good you think you are as a leader, my goodness, the people around you will have all kinds of ideas for how you can get better. So for me, the most fundamental thing about leadership is to have the humility to continue to get feedback and to try to get better - because your job is to try to help everybody else get better.''
